New Orleans’ MUTEMATH finally made it to Sydney! As part of the Groovin’ The Moo tour, they had a few sideshows of their own. This one I can safely say was one of the best gigs I have ever been to.
They played a full 2 hour set (I got home about 1am and I don’t live that far from the Hi-Fi!), spanning their entire discography from last year’s awesome Odd Soul album, all the way back to their first self-titled record from 2006. Huge, energetic show with Paul Meany really showing off his chops as a fantastic front-man, jumping into the crowd, surfing a 12ft inflatable mattress kitted out with LEDs and performing several jumps and handstands on his keyboard setup. Super catchy tunes, and a surprisingly die-hard Australian contingent in the audience made this a brilliant night. Well worth catching these guys if they’re ever in your town. Or just listen to Odd Soul and work your way back. They’re pretty awesome.
